Paper Title
The Effect of Lightness Contrast on the Apparent Usability in Interfaces Design

Abstract
Abstract - Interface perceptual features have an important role in usability. This study investigates the effect of the interface lightness contrast on user responses. The first experiment was carried out in order to verify the apparent usability regarding the understandable, easiness, safety, and attractiveness of 15 different washing machine interfaces. The results show that there is a significant difference in the responses to the different models. Using the same interfaces, but with a higher level of lightness in the interface elements (buttons and LEDs), the second experiment studied the effect of lightness contrast on the user responses. Results show that lightness contrast affects the attractiveness perception of the interfaces. Keywords - Ergonomics, Usability, Interfaces, Attractiveness, Lightness Contrast
