Abstract : Appropriate consideration of daylighting in the educational setting has proven to enhance health and wellbeing of students, improve their productivity, and reduce the dependence on artificial lighting leading to energy and cost savings. This study compares daylighting availability and distribution inside two types of standard classrooms in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; one with a conventional building envelope and the other with the pilot/new one. This study assisted in identifying areas for future improvement and approaches to be adopted since results indicate that the envelope of the pilot school created more contrast in daylighting distributions while also not meeting the indoor lighting intensity range (between 300 to 500 lux) recommended by international standards.
