Abstract : Buildings are made up of many structural elements. When earthquake takes place thee structural elements are
exposed to reverse cyclic loading. This results in the beam-columns developing large inelastic deformations . The seismic
failure of the beam-column joints can be brought down by the utilisation of ductile concrete and the existence of
confinement in the joint region.Greenhouse gases are produced in large quantities during the production of cement which
ultimately leads to global warming. Geopolymer is a sustainable alternative binding material which can be used instead of
the ordinary commercial binder of ordinary Portland cement. Our current study investigates the behaviour of polypropylene
fibre reinforced geopolymer concrete beam-column joints subjected to reverse cyclic loading. Polypropylene fibres were
added to GGBS-Flyash geopolymer concrete in order to reduce its brittle nature. The addition of polypropylene fibre
increased the strength properties of the geopolymer concrete. Finite element methods were used to conduct parametric
studies and it was also found out that the load-deflection behaviour between GPC specimens(with no ductile detailing) and
the cement concrete specimen in which the ductile detailing was done as per IS 13920-2016 were the same, with reduced
cost/strength ratio. Geopolymer concrete can be used to decrease the congestion problems at the joints which are caused due
to the provisions of ductile reinforcement.
