Paper Title
The Impact of Winged Prefabricated Vertical Drain (WPVD) on the Smear Effect
Abstract
The prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) material was developed by Fu & Chai in 2020. In their research, they
modified the geometry of the PVD material. From straight and slender sheets to sheets with wings on each side (winged
prefabricated vertical drain/WPVD). The zone of soil disturbed by the penetration process is known as the smear zone. The
winged PVD material used during the consolidation process can reduce the effect of the smear that occurs. Vacuum
consolidation models finite element analysis (FEA) to get the results of the behavior. WPVD modeling with a wingspan of
40 mm and a distance between wings of 200 mm on the clay soil. The analysis results compare the effect of PVD and
WPVD material modeling on the smear effect zone. Based on analysis results, the value of the settlement and lateral
movement using WPVD material is greater than that of PVD material. Changes in the value of pore pressure that occur in
WPVD have a deeper effect than analysis on PVD materials. that can happen because the flow zone on the WPVD is larger
than the PVD.
