Abstract : This paper deals with the self-sensing concrete (SSC) materials and composition, types and applications.As a
result of advances take place in the aspect of concrete technology many new types of concrete have been invented including
SSC. This novel material is known by its ability to sense its own condition and environmental parameters. The concrete is
essentially depends on the type of functional filler such as steel fiber, carbon black and steel slag. There are two main types
of SSC, intrinsic SSC and non-intrinsic SSC. Important Applications of each type is briefly presented, including structural
health monitoring and traffic detection.
