Abstract : Abstract - Under climate change, the urban heat island effects in urban areas are expected to be more significant. Increasing permeable pavement might be instrumental in mitigating the urban heat island effects. In this study, we monitored a permeable pavement site in the Taipei city center and compared its temperature to the neighboring asphalt roads and impervious pavement. The monitoring period was from March 2021 to March 2022. The monitoring results showed that the average temperature of the permeable pavement in the year is the lowest, and the asphalt pavement resulted in the highest average temperature. The biggest difference between permeable and the other pavements occurred in fall. Compared to impervious pavement, the temperature of permeable pavement is less than 3.7℃, and the difference between permeable pavement and asphalt pavement is 4.5℃. In the spring season, the temperature differences were the least. This small difference might be because that the frequent rainfall events in spring in Taipei city. Keywords - Urban Heat Island Effect, Permeable Pavement, Cool Surface, Temperature
