Paper Title :

Abstract : Abstract - During the foundation design usually both bearing capacity and settlement requirements must be satisfied. In other words, accepted allowable bearing capacity must produce acceptable total and differential settlements. This paper evaluates bearing capacity and settlement for spread footings. Bearing capacity analysis of shallow foundations is based on Terzaghi's formula, which considers physical and mechanical parameters of soils, estimated based on laboratory and in-situ tests. Settlement analysis, as well as bearing capacity analysis, is made to above mentioned type of shallow foundation. It was not possible to use the data of one-dimensional consolidation test ('oedometric' test) for settlement calculations, because they were reported only in a few cases. The geotechnical study reports sandy soils at this site, so it was appropriate to calculate settlements with methods based on in-situ test, as for example CPT test. Settlement analysis are used to generate some design charts which encompass a range of column loads and footing widths appropriate for a certain structure. The differences that exist between the design load computed based on bearing capacity value and design charts value are pointed out. The comparison clearly shows that bearing capacity generally control the design of narrow footings, while settlements govern the design of wide footings. Keywords - Area-efficient, Low power, CSLA, Binary to excess one converter, Multiplexer.
