Abstract : In sustainable land management, land use planning is considered as an effective tool for controlling and adjusting the distribution of land. In case of Vietnam, nevertheless, planning locations are normally facing the disapproval of people who living near the planning objects due to environment impacts. The selection of these locations is normally based on the subjective viewpoint of planners and is not supported by any scientific methods. Many researchers have applied Multi- Criteria Analysis (MCA) methods in which Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is the most popular technique in combination with fuzzy theory for the subject of optimal site selection serving for land use planning purpose. Also, some authors have used Analytic Network Process (ANP), which is a MCA technique considering the interrelationship between factors when assessment. In this study, two approaches F/AHP and F/ANP were used for the selection of optimal landfill site in district of Hung Ha, Vietnam, and the output results were compared to extract the differences. The comparison indicated that there were only slight differences in result because of differences in computing weight of factors and criteria. Therefore, AHP is more preferable for the aim of weight calculation due to the simplicity in process. Keywords- Fuzzy theory, GIS, Land Use Planning, Multi-Criteria Analysis.
