Abstract : With the depletion of fossil fuels and thus increase in the dependence on foreign imports, it has become a necessity to search for an alternative energy source in our country. Hence our focus is on finding a suitable alternative for petroleum products. But finding an alternative which is as efficient as petroleum is an uphill task. With various alternatives available, we have decided to carry out our experimentation using Mahua Biofuel due to its merits when compared to others. A two stage extraction process was carried out to obtain biofuel from the tri-glyceride, followed by separation and removal of catalyst to obtain pure biofuel. Various blends were prepared, oil properties were determined. Those blends having desirable properties were tested on 4-stroke diesel engine for its performance. Emission tests were carried out.
